non-toxic postpartum healing swaps

This post shows you a few ways to make your postpartum physical healing safer and more environmentally-friendly.

First up, pads.

You can expect to bleed postpartum for a few weeks, regardless of how your baby was born, so you’ll need pads. Especially if you have tearing, using organic pads can reduce irritation. The Honey Pot Co has pads with soothing properties specifically for postpartum. You can also buy washable pads or period underwear.

Next, the famous mesh underwear.

While you might have been told to grab as many of these as you can from your doctor, Moon Mama makes amazing reusable mesh underwear. These underwear are a necessity postpartum.

Lastly, nursing pads.

If you leak between feeding your baby, instead of reaching for a jumbo pack of disposable nursing pads, Bamboobies makes washable nursing pads. I’ve also used reusable makeup wipes in a pinch.

Hi! I'm Gigi; I'm a postpartum doula, mother to three toddlers, including twins, and a wife to my high school sweetheart. I’m a #swiftie who loves cheesy novels.

As a former teacher, I bring realistic, evidence-based, and actionable advice (and LOTS of handouts.) I help families get the tools they need to prepare, so once baby arrives, they can focus on resting and bonding instead of researching or stressing. I’m here to streamline the newborn learning curve and help birth parents, partners, and other family members. There isn’t ONE way to have and raise a little human. I’m here to guide parents to find THEIR way so that they can thrive in the fourth trimester and beyond.
