How to reduce your carbon footprint for free

reduce carbon footprint.jpg

being eco-friendly has a reputation for being expensive, maybe because of the beautifully curated pictures (um..like the one I used?) of bamboo cutlery or fancy straws. but reducing your carbon footprint can start with simple changes. for example, my toddler son knows that we bring our own spoons to get frozen yogurt and our own bags to fill with apples; and these things aren’t fancy, just spoons and bags from home. this article shows how you can reduce your carbon footprint for free.

home

  • turn off lights when you leave a room to save electricity

  • to save water take a shorter shower

  • use major appliances at night instead of peak hours to put less of a strain on the power grid

  • take lint out of dryer after each use to make the dryer more efficient

  • lower your thermostat in the winter and raise it in the summer by one degree to save energy

Food

  • buy food made locally to reduce emissions from food being transported

  • another way to reduce transportation is to eat seasonally

  • reduce or eliminate meat products, which have a significant impact on the planet

  • don’t throw away food scraps; drop them at a garden center, make stock, or compost them

  • avoid single-use plastics when eating out

shop

  • bring reusable bags instead of getting new plastic ones

  • when going out, combine errands to reduce driving

  • shop at local businesses to reduce shipping (and support small shops)

  • when possible, buy thrifted (or borrow) instead of new

eco friendly postpartum doula.jpg

Hi! I'm Gigi; I'm a postpartum doula, mother to three toddlers, including twins, and a wife to my high school sweetheart.

As a former teacher, I bring realistic, evidence-based, and actionable advice (and LOTS of handouts.) I help families get all the tools they need to prepare, so once baby arrives, they can focus on resting and bonding instead of researching or stressing. I’m here to streamline the newborn learning curve and help birth parents, partners, and other family members. There isn’t ONE way to have and raise a little human. I’m here to guide parents to find THEIR way so that they can thrive in the fourth trimester and beyond.

  • Ready to learn how to create an actionable postpartum plan?

  • Ready to get the support you need in the fourth trimester?
