Choosing a safe baby mattress

When I was pregnant with my oldest, I spent hours searching for a safe mattress. This article will break down WHY a safe baby mattress is so important, what to look for, and which mattresses are my favorite.

Why should you choose a safe mattress?

  • Babies sleep up to twenty hours a day, so they are touching their mattress a lot!

  • Babies are very vulnerable to toxins.

  • Many mattresses are sprayed with flame retardant and covered in vinyl, both of which have been found to be harmful.

What should you look for in a mattress?

  • A baby mattress must be firm for safe sleep.

  • A safe mattress should be free of flame retardant.

  • The mattress should have a certification, such as GOTS, GOLS, MadeSafe, or GreenGuard.

Here are some of my favorites!
