Choosing a safe all-purpose cleaner

Everyone has a favorite all-purpose cleaner. And now, “green” and “safe” versions are in almost every store. Unfortunately, many of these “eco-friendly” cleaners have fragrances and petroleum-derived ingredients that research shows are dangerous. One study shows that daily exposure to all-purpose cleaners can, over time, have the same impact as smoking a pack of cigarettes every day

So, what should you look for in an all-purpose cleaner?

When looking for a safe all-purpose cleaner, look for

  • A surfactant or soap (like castile soap)

  • White vinegar

  • Essential oils listed specifically (instead of as a fragrance)

  • A coconut-derived cleaner (like sodium laurel sulfate)

Here are some of my favorites!

Or, you can learn to make your own!

Hi! I'm Gigi; I'm a postpartum doula, mother to three toddlers, including twins, and a wife to my high school sweetheart.

I help families get the tools they need to prepare, so once baby arrives, they can focus on resting and bonding instead of researching or stressing. I’m here to streamline the newborn learning curve and help birth parents, partners, and other family members. There isn’t ONE way to have and raise a little human. I’m here to guide parents to find THEIR way so that they can thrive in the fourth trimester and beyond.
